Spend a captivating 2 hours walking through the historic and gorgeous Garden District of New Orleans, which is also the world of writer Anne Rice. This intimate tour is limited to 15 people and you will be taken on a journey of landmarks featured in the Gothic settings of novelist Anne Rice. Your tour guide is highly knowledgeable about all the locations and their importance in Rice’s novels. The tour has been created by people who are immense fans of this incredible author’s work. The Garden District, in particular, features heavily in the Mayfair Witches series.
The Garden District tour will include locations in Lafayette Cemetery #1, including where the Mayfair family members are buried, where Mona Mayfair had sex with her relative, the yellow fever tomb, Lestat’s tomb and hiding place, and the area in the center of the cemetery where Anne Rice blended several tombs to create the Mayfair family tomb in The Witching Hour series. Your guide will also show you the beautiful Secret Garden, the setting for the emotional scene from Interview with the Vampire, where Louis submitted to Lestat, allowing the latter to make him a vampire.
You will leave Lafayette Cemetery #1 and head down to the old firehouse where Michael Curry’s father once worked. As the tour continues, you will see several of the homes Anne Rice once owned and used as inspiration for various novels. In fact, Anne Rice once lived in two of these homes as a young lady growing up in the Garden District; another of her homes was later purchased by actor Nicholas Cage.
You will also get a chance to see the home where Anne, her husband Stan, and son Christopher Rice once lived. You will see the keyhole door, the area where Lasher and Michael Curry fought, and where Deirdre Mayfair would sit all day with Lasher there to protect her, just to name a few of the relevant plotlines in that home. The house was also featured in Blood Canticle, the novel incorporating the new characters from Anne’s Blackwood Farm series with those of her previous Vampire Chronicles and Mayfair Witches series.
The tour will end on St. Charles Ave, where you will be shown a historic hotel featured in several of Anne Rice’s novels. This is also where the Vampire Lestat saw his shadow in a window before disappearing at the end of Memnoch the Devil.
