On March 2, 1998 Anne Rice posted the below message on her website:
“For the time being, I have a little bit of negative news, and that is that we’re shutting down our various companies. We’re shutting down the Anne Rice Tour Company . . . .”
Since March 1998 Anne Rice’s fans have been posting comments such as, “I am a huge fan of Anne Rice’s novels. I would love to see all the places featured in the novels but have been unsuccessful searching on the Internet for a specific tour for them. All of the tours online are general tours, not specifically places in Anne Rice’s novels. Can anyone suggest a specific tour to go on?” The answer is YES!!!! Finally, a book devoted to all the places featured in the Vampire Chronicles and The Mayfair Witches.
To say fans and family were not happy about Anne’s tours ending is an understatement. There have been many tours based around Anne’s literary works but most are now gone. You can still go on bits and pieces of Anne Rice’s tours such as those offered by tour companies in the French Quarter or tour companies in the Garden District or one of the cemetery tours. You can also expect to pay $20 or more per person for each tour. That’s a whopping $60 or more for each person if they did all the tours separately. None of those tours takes you to half the sites mentioned in The Vampire Chronicles or the Mayfair Withes family saga. That’s all changed.
Anne Rice’s Unauthorized Tours covers all the vampire and witch haunts in New Orleans’ French Quarter, Garden District, Uptown, Central Business District (CBD), Irish Channel, Storyville, Churches, Plantations and Cemeteies.
Visit the Gallier House, which was the inspiration for Lestat and Louis’ house in Anne Rice’s Interview with a Vampire. See the homes of the Mayfair witch families. Dine in the same restaurants and café as the Mayfair Witches and members of the Talamasca. Visit the inspiration for the Talamasca motherhouse. Walk down the street featured in the movie, Interview with the Vampire. The best part is you can guide yourself on each tour.
